On the occasion of 111 birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram on Thursday, Sangareddy district Collector V Venkateshwarlu said everyone should get an inspiration from the life of the great Dalit leader who fought for the eradication of un- touchability who also raised the voice of Dalits across the nation by founding.
Sangareddy: On the occasion of 111 birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram on Thursday, Sangareddy district Collector V Venkateshwarlu said everyone should get an inspiration from the life of the great Dalit leader who fought for the eradication of un- touchability who also raised the voice of Dalits across the nation by founding ‘All India Depressed Classes League in 1940s and served the nation as Member of Parliament from the state of Bihar holding the world record for being a parliamentarian for 50 uninterrupted years, from 1936 to 1986.
The Collector and Joint Collector Nikhila, local MLA, District SP, Sangareddy Municipal chairman Bogula Vijaya Laxmi, Dalit community representatives and others offered floral tributes to the statue of Babu Jagjivan Ram at MLA and R&B building premises.
Later, speaking at the public meeting held at Nataraj theatre, the Collector said Jagjivan Ram was also a freedom fighter and fought for the development and unity of the downtrodden and depressed classes along with his contemporaries Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Mahatma Jyothibha Pule and several social reformers of which we all should feel proud of.
The government is also implementing several welfare schemes and plans for the development of Dalit and other backward classes. The officials should make sure that the targeted beneficiaries are getting the privileges of the schemes and plans intended for them, said the Collector.
SP Chandrasekhar Reddy said that the police department was always working to deliver the service of protection and the implementation of SC/ST Atrocity Act for Dalits on time. The filing of cases of SC/ST Atrocity had been reduced in the district, said the officer. MLA Prabhakar Reddy said though he faced much humiliation during his education and lifetime, Babu Jagjivan Ram never expressed any hatred or anger on his haters but fought for the welfare of the depressed communities without fear which was ideal for all to reach his ambitions.
Municipal Chairman Vijaya Laxmi said through several decades he worked tirelessly to promote equality and without any rancor or bitterness. Yuvajana Sangham leader Kuna Venu Gopal said irrespective of creed and caster, everyone should develop the notion of unity and strive for harmony for all.
Later, the Collector and the public representatives awarded a cash prize along with the certificates to the couples for inter-caste marriages. The school students were also given presentations for their best performances in the competitions followed by the lunch programme with the attendees. The programme was attended by District SC Devlopment officer C Sridhar, SC corporation ED Babu Rao, other officials, citizens and students.
