Rajendranagar: Alleging misappropriation of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commission (GHMC) funds meant for developmental works, the Congress party led by party in-charge for Chevella Parliamentary Constituency, P Karthik Reddy held demonstrations on Tuesday.

He along with other party leaders was stopped by police on their way and they were taken into custody, when they tried to march from Diary farm X road to local GHMC office in Rajendra Nagar.

A high drama ensued when the Congress leaders decided to march towards GHMC Circle office in Rajendra Nagar. Even as they started their march, the police tried to stop and quell the Congress men. Some of them later squatted on the road, when they were prevented from reaching the GHMC office. However they tried to lay siege to the local GHMC office in Rajendra Nagar circle and held demonstrations.

Karthik Reddy alleged that the local MLA T Prakash Goud misused the funds meant for public utilization for his personal use, as these funds were used laying of road near the MLA’s daughter, which is rarely used by commuters.

The Congress took up the matter on streets after the authorities failed to provide any explanation, during the last one week to Karthik’s queries, over laying of road by GHMC allegedly at the behest of MLA in the question. He explained that due to nonchalant behaviour of the officials, the Congress undertook rally.

The Congress leader along with others was later taken into custody and was shifted to Shadnagar police station. Meanwhile, the Rajendranagar Circle GHMC officials refuted that funds were misused, as they had followed ‘due process’ for the works which were undertaken recently.
