Well maintained park, but no salaries to workers
The A S Rao Nagar Park is one of the well-maintained parks in the city with good footfalls but the workers who maintain the park are to receive salaries for six months. Unable to find another job and living in hope that they would receive their salaries, five workers including a security staff, gardener and three sweepers have been working tirelessly without pay.

Ilaiah, the gardener who has been working at the park since 2003 says, “The previous contractor simply refuses to pay two months salary. Do what you want and approach anyone, I will not pay.” The department officials inform the workers that a new contractor would come and their payments would be made.”
Aruna Jyothi of the horticultural wing of GHMC said, “A service would be issued to Jagdeesh Prasad, the previous contractor who has been refusing to pay pending salaries to the workers.” When contacted, the director of GHMC’s Urban Biodiversity department, V Damodar said, “The issue did not come to his notice and that he would take action as soon as he receives information.”
On an average, 400-450 persons visit the park and on weekends the n umber goes up to 1,000- to 1,300. The entry fee that started with Rs 3 went up to Rs 5, since last year it is Rs 10. Morning walkers monthly pass is Rs 100.
