Secunderabad: City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Monday called for creation of awareness that prostitution is illegal, ‘although it is prevalent in all cities’.

Speaking to The Hans India, after visiting the Prajwala home shelter here, being jointly run by the NGO and the police to check prostitution, he lauded the efforts of North Zone DCP Sumati, Prajwala representative Sunita Kishan, CWC Sharada, Gopalpuram Inspectors Sridhar and Ramachandra Reddy for identifying those driven to prostitution and counseling them. This enabled the women to lead a honourable living’ the CP pointed out.

He said Prajwala centre’s activities would be expanded across the city and sought the cooperation/suggestions of the NGO and the North Zone police. ‘It is a matter of pleasure that the counseling by Prajwala has helped fallen women to give up their style of living 100 per cent.’ In this connection, Kumar announced that Inspectors of Begumpet (Janaki), Gopalpuram (Sridhar & Ramachandra Reddy would be presented the prestigious AMC awards. He wanted Sumati to submit the names of constables who had a role in the success achieved by Prajawala, for giving awards.
