Nizampet: In the past it was wild animals, now it is the turn of monkeys that are playing truant in the village of Nandigama. People are now complaining of monkey menace and attribute their growing number to the decline of forest cover and indiscriminate chopping of trees.

Locals say that the monkeys come in search of food and enter the homes of villagers. “When we gave complaint to the authorities, none of them gave the response till now,” alleged villagers. There are close to 50 monkeys that are causing havoc in the village. In a recent incident, a monkey ran away with a lunch box of a farmer who was working in the field.
