Kushaiguda: It was eight years ago when a successful delivery case was taken up at the government health centre in Kushaiguda under Keesara Circle. There was a time when the health centre was popular but today with insufficient staff and lack of facilities is a pale shadow of its former self. All emergency cases at the health centre are referred to other governmenthospitals.

1. Once a popular health centre, now with a single doctor and an attender is avoided by the patients
2. All emergency cases are referred to other govt hospitals
3. Lack of cleanliness is also a deterrent for patients

The health centre treats both pregnant women and children. All complicated cases are referred to other government hospitals in the city. With just a single doctor and an attendee, the centre is ill-equipped to deal with the growing number of patients. Another issue that locals complain about is the lack of cleanliness. Laxmi, a social worker and resident of Kushaiguda, says, “People have to travel all the way to far off hospitals for deliveries.

Most cases are referred to Keesara, Gandhi Hospital, Bowenpally and Government Maternity Hospital in Koti. “It is sometimes risky to travel long distances during delivery pains,” says Vasanthi, a resident of Cherlapally. A single room is occupied by a doctor and the remaining two rooms are empty with scrap spread all over. The patients attribute the sad state of health centre to the apathy of the government officials.
