Musheerabad: The Telangana Rythu Sangham, CITU and farm workers’ organisation on Tuesday accused the governments of State and Central of failing to prevent suicides of farmers, while asserting that they had increased by 40 per cent across the country.

CITU state general secretary M Saibaba and Rythu Sangham leader Sagar at a press conference here charged the governments with ‘scheming’ to hand over agriculture sector to corporate institutions, while neglecting the welfare of farm labourers.

They demanded steps by the government to strengthen the Food Security Act and the Public Distribution System.

The two leaders stated that a symposium was being jointly organised by the Rythu Sangham, CITU and Farm Workers’ Organisation on July 25 in Sundarayya Vignana Kendram while appealing to make the “jail bharo” programme on August 9 and the ‘mazdoor kisan rally’ on September 5 a success.

They said AIW national general secretary A Vijay Raghavan would be the chief guest at the symposium.

Among those present at the press meet were Rythu Sangham secretary Venkatramulu, Prasada Rao, Jayalakshmi, Padma.
