Trade pact with Indonesia will be strategic to checkmate China

Hyderabad: BJP leader and former Union Minister Subramanian Swamy has strongly advocated for revisiting the foreign policy which he said is not in tune with the demands of modern day. Delivering the 11th Janamanchi Gowrishankar Memorial Lecture on ‘ India’s security concerns- My perception’ at Osmania University on Saturday, he said that- “India’s foreign policy doctrine should be retaliatory. If we go on preaching peace, the terrorists in Pakistan and the greedy rulers of China will slowly occupy our land”.
Elaborating further, he said “Of late, China has been making several moves to penetrate into India. Our diplomatic efforts do not checkmate the Chinese. What India should do at this juncture will be to have a trade pact with Indonesia. Why? Let me explain. Sumatra Islands in Indonesia is just 90 miles away from Nicobar Islands. Most of the Chinese trade will go through this sea route to other countries. So, if we have a trade pact with Indonesia and thereby have a say on the transit matters, we can clip the wings of China to an extent. If China makes incursions into Arunachal or prick us on Kashmir, we can reply it through this. We should make the Chinese feel the pinch” he opined.
He also said that Chinese-Pakistan link shall also be broken for the security of India. “ Of late, the Chinese also are greatly worried as some Pak-trained Uygur militants sneaked into the volatile Xingiang province and created mayhem there. They cannot completely rely on Pakistan but they use it as a pawn in its larger designs against India. Since Pakistan too has age-old issues with India, they try to pose a unified stance. Under these circumstances, we should go otherway round and by roping in nations such as Indonesia, we can mount pressure on our common enemy” Swamy explained. Lambasting Pakistan, he said “ Nawaz Sharif is a puppet in the hands of Taliban-trained fundamentalist Islamic rulers. He cannot do anything just as our Prime Minister. I can even say that Nawaz Sharif is a carbon copy of Manmohan Singh. I don’t have any doubt that Taliban will declare war against India.
