Hyderabad : Lok Satta national President N Jayaprakash Narayan on Wednesday announced to embark on a “ Mission- Telugu Tejam” to mobilise people's support for a comprehensive and amicable solution to the problems thrown up by the Centre's unilateral decision to divide Andhra Pradesh.
As per the mission, Narayan would visit important towns in Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra and hold round table conferences and public meetings from September 14 to 27. He would call upon people "not to be swayed by passion and become pawns in political parties' cynical machinations" to garner votes by fuelling hatred.
In a press release here, the party leader said that solutions would have to be found in five key areas: fate of Greater Hyderabad, sharing of revenue from Hyderabad, government employees, distribution of water resources and development of Rayalaseema region.
Residents of Hyderabad, irrespective of the region they hail from, should be provided statutory protection for pursuing their professions or job there. The surplus revenue from Greater Hyderabad should be distributed for a certain period to all the regions, because if the new states were deprived of this revenue, they would not be in the position to pay even salaries of government employees, he added.
On the issue of postings of government employees, Narayan said as per the six-point formula in vogue since 1975, 95 per cent of government jobs are filled at the local or zonal levels. But guidelines were needed to sort out the issues related to remaining five per cent posts which are filled at the state level.
