Hyderabad: The bandh, call given by APNGOs and various other groups who have been opposing bifurcation of the state in 13 districts of Seemandhra on Tuesday, passed off peacefully. All Educational institutions had already announced closure for a week –from September 23. The business establishments also joined the bandh and voluntarily closed the shops. Central government offices except the very essential departments also remained closed. Some local trains were either suspended or delayed. Motor bike rallies were taken out in various parts of the region and human chains were formed.

The agitators paralysed highways and roads in the region. Even private transport was blocked in places like Tirupati, where pilgrims faced severe hardship. While Traffic came to a standstill on the national highway Nellore, agitators resorted to some violence and damaged a school bus.

Bandh was total in Kadapa. Human chains were formed in Kadapa, Anantapur and Visakhapatnam. A 500-km human chain was organized from Gutti Karidi Konda in Kurnool district. Even road side tea stalls remained closed across the region.
