HLF welcomes differently abled writers
This year the Hyderabad Literary Fest (HLF) will bring the creative energies of the differently-abled under the spotlight. The HLF 2015 will have special sessions featuring writers with different abilities such as advocate Malini Chib, journalist L Subramani, and entrepreneur/blogger Raghavendra Satish Peri. Being impaired, they have not only found their way to self-realisation, but they are also doing tremendous work in empowering other people with disabilities.

Disability rights activist Malini Chib wrote ‘One Little Finger’ over the course of two years by typing with only one finger. In 2011, the Indian Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment awarded Malini the National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the role model category.
Raghavendra Satish Peri is digital accessibility and marketing consultant, trainer, and entrepreneur. He is also a passionate marathon runner and a blogger, a speaker at Click Asia Summit, The Goa Project, TEDX Youth Chennai etc. L Subramani is a senior subeditor at Deccan Herald, an author of a book ‘Lights Out’ about his degenerating vision. He has been advocating the rights of people with visual impairment for many years.
At the HLF, which is set to take place between January 23 and 26, Malini Chib will present her award winning autobiography ‘One Little Finger’, where she reflects on her every day battle, unfavourable social systems and her achievements. A panel discussion with Malini Chib, Raghavendra Satish Peri, L Subramani and other authors and activists will be moderated by V Rajasekhar of EFLU, will be devoted to the writing possibilities for the impaired.
“This is the first time a literary festival is so open to invite people with disabilities,” Anju Khemani of the Drama Association of the Deaf (DAD) said. “Most of the problems that differently-abled people face are related to the mindset of people with and without disabilities. We expect the festival to raise general consciousness and to become a trigger for others to make spaces, events and activities more welcoming for the differently-abled,” she added.
