If the educational standards of minorities are ameliorated, their standard of living will also improve,” Zafar Javeed, General Secretary, Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Minorities Educational Institutions said.

Zafar Javeed led the delegation that made a representation on Sunday to Chairman of the BC Commission favouring enhancement of reservation to the Muslims.

“Due to the existing four per cent reservation, several youths were able to study engineering and other professional courses. The Commission’s reservation can help improve the educational and thence living standards of the even greater section of the society,” he added.

The representation pointed that in several surveys conducted periodically by both the Union government and the Government of Erstwhile AP, Muslims constitute the most backward community educationally and economically of all communities.

The share and representation of Muslims in government jobs is lowest amongst all communities in Telangana, thus deserving reservation.

Observing that the number of students pursuing graduation and post-graduation courses is the lowest amongst Muslims in the state of Telangana and thus the Muslims deserve reservation.

The representation also pointed that a level playing field will have to be created for Muslims, which can only be done by providing reservations for them in education and government jobs.

“We firmly believe that the state of Telangana cannot progress and march forward without the Muslims also progressing simultaneously, for which reservations is most essential,” Javeed concluded.
