Hyderabad: The 45-kg gold heist at Muthoot Finance at Ramachandrapuram on December 28 was executed by a Mumbai-based gang of which four persons were from Southern States settled in the Maharashtra capital.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya told this to media following rumours that the gang has been nabbed.
He said the police teams were waiting for an opportunity for the gang members to come together.
“We have got definite clues about the person who was the leader of the crime.
He behaved like a Sardarjee and CBI officer.
He had got together five members from Mumbai and other southern State settlers in Mumbai.
The gang leader and the Scorpio driver are under discrete surveillance of a strong police team. The Scorpio and one bike are also visible to us at these shelters,” the police official said.
Giving details of the movements of the gang members before and after the heist, the Cyberabad police chief said the Scorpio and one motorcycle were used to conduct recce.
The motorcycle was parked at Parigi Bus Stand. The gang came on December 23 and on the night of December 24 they took shelter in a dhaba 10 km away from the crime scene.
After the recce, the vehicles left towards Wadi side. On December 25, all the members of the gang moved in Wadi area.
On December 26, they left their den in Wadi and again conducted recce and parked the motorcycle in Parigi Bus Stand.
They thoroughly checked the different routes and returned to Wadi.
The motorcycle was left in Parigi Bus Stand but only the Scorpio left for Wadi area, Sandeep Shandilya said.
On December 27, the gang started at around 5 am from Wadi area, picked up the motorcycle from Parigi Bus Stand for piloting purpose and left towards Muthoot Finance.
Incidentally, they saw a patrol car of Ramachandrapuram on the border and abandoned their plan.
The gang took shelter in the dhaba for the night and again started from the dhaba at 8 am, the police official said.
He also said the gang used different registration numbers for Scorpio and the motorcycle by replacing the license plates in different locations to avoid easy identification.
After looting the gold, the motorcycle was moving 2 km ahead of the Scorpio and piloted the Scorpio to Wadi area.
At this point, all the six robbers got down with booty and left for Mumbai by train parking the vehicles in their den, he said adding that all the movements of robbers had been analysed with the help of footage collected from over 35 CCTVs installed at different locations along the highway.
