Mexico City: A collision between a bus and a train in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon left at least 20 dead and 22 injured, an official said.

The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. Friday at a spot some 15 km from the border town of Anahuac, head of Nuevo Leon's emergency-management office Jorge Camacho Rincon said.

The first report by the emergency-management office said the passenger bus was travelling from Nuevo Laredo, a border city in the neighbouring state of Tamaulipas, to Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, when it collided with the freight train.

Most of the injured were taken to hospitals in Nuevo Laredo, according to Camacho.

Friday's accident was the deadliest in recent years in Nuevo Leon and comes nearly six years after a bus-train collision in that state killed 18 people.
