Pakistan blames religious extremists for Karachi bus attack

Karachi: Karachi police has reportedly revealed that religious extremists, not India's premiere intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing ( RAW), were responsible for last week's bus attack on Ismailis in the city.

The news came to light after Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi, Ghulam Qadir Thebo disclosed that police had nabbed four militants, including the mastermind of the Safoora Goth carnage, Tahir, for their role in last week's attack, which claimed the lives of 43 people and left 13 others injured, reported the Dawn.

Thebo, who is also leading the investigation team, said that the four arrested suspects had revealed a total of 11 gunmen had opened fire on Ismaili passengers inside a bus near Safoora Goth last week, and that the group was also involved in the killing of human rights activist Sabeen Mahmud and a number of policemen in the city, attacks on members of the Bohra community and an American academic.

The police chief said that the attackers were associated with an 'Al Qaeda-inspired' militant group and belonged to different ethnic backgrounds.
