A suicide bomber driving a vehicle rammed into Dafniya gate -- the entrance into Misrata -- killing three people and injuring eight others on Sunday.

Two of the injured died later, Xinhua reported, citing a source from Misrata's military operation chamber.

An IS affiliate claimed responsibility for the attack on Twitter and identified the attacker as an Tunisian.

Libya, a major oil producer in North Africa, is witnessing a jittery political process after former leader Muammar Gaddafi was toppled during the 2011 turmoil.

The country is now deadlocked between the pro-secular army and Islamist militants, that has caused a security vacuum for homegrown extremism to brew.
