holdsKadapa: YSR Congress Party organised a dharna at the Collectorate in protest against the hike in power tariff and the imposition of unscheduled power cuts that were detrimental to the interests of the farmers. Lashing out at the government for its lack of proper vision, district YSRCP convener Suresh Babu said that the lopsided polices of the government had plunged the State into darkness.

Suresh Babu lambasted the state government for its failure to tackle the power crisis. Unless the government takes appropriate measures on a war footing, the state would be engulfed in a major power crisis in future, he warned. He said that it was unfortunate that in some villages, there was no power supply for 12 hours a day and the students were facing immense hardships during the examination season.

Suresh Babu slammed the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for throwing the welfare schemes launched by the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy into the dustbin. He said that even the small scale industries were forced to shut down due to the power cuts and the workers were being thrown on the street. He said that the people were unable to bear the heat even during the night as there were no fans.

Speaking to the media, the former MLA Raghurami Reddy and former mayor Ravindernath Reddy demanded that the government should lift the power cuts immediately and ensure uninterrupted power supply to the farmers to mitigate their suffering. They warned that they would be forced to intensify their agitation if the government failed to do so.
