Yadadri-Bhongir: The last rites of Maoist Chamala Krishnaiah alias Daya, who was killed in Sunday’s encounter, were performed at his native village Dasireddygudem of Valigonda mandal in the district on Thursday.

The body of the slain Maoist was brought to Dasireddygudem at 9 am on Thursday and final rites were performed in the agricultural fields, which belongs to his family. Chandramma, mother of the slain Maoist, led the funeral procession.

A large number of sympathisers and members of civil rights organisations, Revolutionary Writers Association (VIRASAM) and Amara Veerula Bandu Mithrula Sangam (AMBS) paid respects to the deceased Maoist at his house.

Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Democratic Front convener Chikkudu Prabhakar said killing of more than 20 Maoists was a covert operation. He alleged that police made the Maoists consume food laced with poison and later killed them brutally. The Maoists were killed in a one-sided firing by the police, he added.

Civil Liberties Committee leader Raghunandhan said they have also doubts on the press note released in the name of AP State Committee of CPI (Maoist). He suspected the hand of Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB).

Stating that some more Maoists might have been in the custody of the police, he alleged that police were wiping them in a phased manner under the name of encounters. AMBS leaders Padmakka, VIRASAM members Pinakapani, Chennaiah and Manjula, TPF district convener Narsimha and others attended the funeral ceremony.
