Khammam: The city traffic police on Sunday launched a special drive on helmet wearing and counseled over 3000 vehicle raiders for not wearing helmets and let them off after requisitioning helmets from their homes.

The police did not levy any fines on them.The special drive was necessitated as various programmes taken by the traffic police department since the past five months to educate the vehicle raiders did not bear fruit.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of traffic circle inspector Naresh Reddy. A group of 100 traffic police personnel conducted the drive on helmet wearing at 12 centres in the city and counseled over 3,000. The police told the vehicle riders that wearing a helmet should not be treated as a burden, but as a responsibility.
