Illandu: Three-year-old Sanvita became a bone of contention between biological mother and foster parents. It may be recalled that the girl was sold to a childless couple Vemula Rajendra Prasad and Swarupa of Illandu by the baby’s father Maloth Baav Singh three years ago.
Singh wife, Uma, was unaware of the deal and was made to believe that the girl child she delivered was dead. However, after coming to about that her daughter was alive, Uma traced the couple and demanded for the baby’s return.
Swarupa, refusing to return the baby, has launched a hunger strike. Meanwhile, the officials, in the absence of documentary evidence, are keen on conducting a DNA test to decide the biological parents of the girl.
Meanwhile, the activists of women’s associations staged a rasta roko at the railway gate near Illandu and declared that they would not budge till the baby was handed over to Swarupa. Illandu ZPTC member Sandra Aruna visited the agitating Swarupa and enquired about her well-being.
Several people have been urging the officials not to disappoint the foster mother, who nursed the baby like her own.
