Gadwal: The Gadwal police arrested four persons at Undavalli toll plaza on NH 44 in the wee hours on Wednesday and seized 360 government supplied sheep being illegally transported in four DCM vans.

On one hand though the state government is spending thousands of corers for procuring Sheep and distributed them to the Backward communities for providing traditional family based employment in the rural areas and striving hard to help improve the socio-economic conditions of Backward caste communities in the State, on the other hand because of no proper supervision of implementation of this scheme, some unscrupulous elements are taking advantage of the schemes and benefiting the sheep under subsidy and later illegally transporting them and selling them to brokers in others States and making a fast bucks.

According to Ramchander Ji, Assistance Sub Inspector of Undavalli police station, based on a tip-off that some people were illegally transporting the government supplied sheep in four DCMs to various places in different directions, the police put a strict vigil on the movements of the vehicles and intercepted all the four DCMS at the toll plaza and ceased all the four DCMS and recovered all the 360 sheep from the vehicles and kept them at the Undavalli police station.

“We have arrested all the four persons and middle men who were involved in the illegal Sheep transportation. Of the 360 sheep, 180 sheep have been sent back to their owners, while the owners of remaining 180 sheep are yet to be traced out.

We have booked the cases on all the four persons and sent them for remand,” informed the ASI. However, all the seized sheep stalled at the police station are starving as there is no one to take care of their feed or water.
