Khammam: Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has urged Railway Minister Piyush Goel to modernise the Khammam railway station as well as the Bhadrachalam Road railway station and take steps to launch works at an estimated cost of Rs 976-crore Bhadrachalam Road-Kovvur railway track.
He also impressed on the Minister on the need to build a railway overbridge at Kaman Bazar-Gandhi Chowk in the city, which is the main business district, in view of the increased commuter traffic. He also urged the Minister for steps to ensure that escalator is installed, which was sanctioned for the railway station here. He sought expansion of the platform at the railway station here where the trains bound for Dornakal would halt. He sought an A/c retiring room on Khammam platform in view of the increased VIP visits to the city.
The duration of train journey from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam would come down drastically once the Bhadrachalam Road-Kovvur railway track is executed. The BJP leader Bangaru Laxman had laid the foundation stone for the Bhadrachalam Road-Sarapaka railway track, but works were not yet started, he said, urging the minister for suitable steps to ground the works. He urged for doubling of track between Bhadrachalam Road and Dornakal. He sought upgrading the Gandhipuram railway station from F grade to E grade.
