Khammam: Many great leaders of our country got recognition both at national and international level through their education and by their great deeds. Babu Jagjivan Ram was one among them, said District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar here on Thursday.

The 111th birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram was celebrated on a grand scale by paying rich tributes and garlanding the statue of the Babu Jagjivan Ram here at bypass road near NTR circle here on Thursday.

Speaking at the programme at Bhaktaramadasu Kalakshetram, Lokesh Kumar said that Babu Jagjivan Ram’s political journey continued for 50 years from 1936 to 1986 and served the nation thoughout his life. He was a great freedom fighter, an outstanding Parliamentarian and a distinguished Union Minister who strived hard for the upliftment of depressed class.

Education is the main pillar for the development. The youth must concentrate on education and reach higher positions like that of Babu Jagjivan Ram by taking him as an inspiration, advised the Collector.

Deputy Commissioner of Police K Suresh Kumar said Babu Jagjivan Ram had never hidden his caste. He strived hard to reach higher position and played a key role in Indian Political arena. He fought for equality and stood moral for entire backward class communities.

Convenor of the Babu Jagjivan Ram Birth anniversary celebration committee P Praveen Kumar, Co-convenor N Vinod Kumar, Social Welfare Department Officer K Sathyanarayana, DM&HO Dr. Kondal Rao, Project Director of DRDA Indumati, Joint Director of Planning Department Z Ramdas and Executive Director of SC Corporation Sathyanarayana were present.
