Durga temple officials suspended

Vijayawada: The endowment department suspended two of its officials working at the Kanakadurga temple atop Indrakeeladri here on Thursday. The department slapped the suspension notice on the assistant executive engineer, Saiprasad and Superintendent Gopichand till further orders. The two officials were charged with dereliction of duty. They were found guilty at the Prasadam counter maintained by the Andhra Bank atop the hill. It was found that the staff at the counter bungled the Prasadam collection to the tune of Rs 29 lakh, when the two officials were on duty. The Andhra Bank officials complained against the missing funds from the counter following which the department conducted an internal enquiry and found the two officials responsible. The initial probe found that the two officials failed to monitor the Prasadam sales at the counter.
