Work on flyover to begin soon; three escalators for Vijayawada railway station Vijayawada: Union Minister of State for Railways Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy announced here on Monday that Gunadala railway station would be upgraded as circular station soon and flyover work would be restarted by May. He reviewed the performance of the Vijayawada Railway Division following a request by local legislators and the Parliament Member. Speaking to the media here, Suryaprakash Reddy said that three escalators and five lifts would be established at Vijayawada railway station and steps would be taken to modernise the railway station. He further said that nearly 4,000 posts were vacant in Vijayawada Division alone and steps would be taken to fill these posts soon. The proposed rail over bridges at Ramakrishnapuram and Madhuranagar would be cleared after discussing with the Railway Board, he assured Reacting to the service charges of the Municipal Corporation pending with the Railways, he said that the issue would be resolved amicably in consultation with the civic body. He claimed that Andhra Pradesh State got priority in the allocation of railway funds by the Railway Board after he took charge as railway minister. Observing that a member from the State got railway ministry after a gap of 16 years, he promised that he would clear all the pending projects in the division. The State needed Rs 40,000 crore for completion of all the pending projects in the State, he said. He said he would give priority to women passengers' safety. MP Lagadapati Rajagopal requested the Railway Minister to introduce more trains from Machilipatnam. Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar speaking on the occasion informed that the division has earned Rs 2980 income last year. MP Konakalla Narayana, legislators V Srinivas, Malladi Srinivas and Additional Divisional Railway Manager S Subba Rao were also present.
