planKurnool: Minister for Minor Irrigation T G Venkatesh on Thursday said that a plan was afoot to bring out a Sub-Plan for BC communities also. Participating in the 187th birth anniversary celebrations of Jyotirao Phule at the Birla Gate Circle , he said that it was an auspicious moment as both Telugu New Year Ugadi and Phule Jayanti happened on the same day. He informed that the government had sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for setting up a bronze statue of Jyotirao Phule in Kurnool town and Rs 1 crore for Jyotirao Bhavan. MLC Sudhakar Babu spoke about the contribution of Phule in uplifting the downtrodden communities and encouraging women education. He called upon all to follow in his footsteps and strive for an ideal society. MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy said that Jyotirao had set up schools for girls in 1848 with an aim of empowering women in society. At present, the government was providing fee reimbursement to BC students in education. In future, more such schemes would be formulated for developing backward communities, he said. Kurnool District Collector C Sudarshan Reddy said that Jyotirao Phule was a great inspiration for the underprivileged sections of the society. His ideals should be emulated and practiced in their true spirit, he said Several district officials, party leaders and BC welfare leaders participated in the programme.
