Kazipet (Warangal): Efforts are on to rescue a 63-year-old watchman who is believed to have stuck in the ground floor after a G+3 under-construction building caved in partially at Bhavani Nagar here late on Tuesday night.

Two rescue teams - National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Hyderabad and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) - from Bhupalpally pressed into service to rescue the watchman Meda Bikshapathy.

It’s believed that the structure occurred due to inadequate support system and weak soil underneath it. Adding more to it was water-logging adjacent to the structure due to incessant rains that have been lashing region for the last few days.

The police who reached the spot vacated the neighbours as a precautionary measure. It’s learnt that police took the owner of the building K Ravinder Reddy, a retired employee, into custody.

The district collector Amrapali Kata and Commissioner of Police V Ravinder who inspected the site on Wednesday morning said that efforts are on to find the missing watchman.

She said that they have also urged the National Institute of Technology (NIT) engineers to guide the proceedings. The building will be demolished after rescuing watchman, she added.

Mayor Nannapuneni Narender and Warangal West MLA D Vinay Bhaskar assured watchman’s wife Manemma, who is inconsolable, if anything happens to her husband.
