Srikakulam: Even after ten years of its establishment Rajiv Gandhi Institute Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital at Srikakulam is yet to get sufficient facilities. As a result patients are unable to receive quality medical treatment and resorting private hospitals located in and around Srikakulam and often cases referred to King George Hospital (KGH) Visakhapatnam. RIMS hospital is attached to RIMS medical college and it needs super specialty facilities but still teaching, non-teaching, medical and technical posts not recruited sufficiently.

Three professor, five associate professor and 10 assistant professor posts are laid vacant. Total 16 tutors, 1 lecturer, 1 epidemiologist posts are yet to be filled. Staff nurses posts 38 are laid vacant. As a result quality medical services not available round the clock at RIMS and often patients are resorting private hospitals in the city by losing confidence over the medical treatment at RIMS.

Total 23 Civil surgeon, civil assistant surgeon and dental surgeon posts also lay vacant. Total 120 technical posts in laboratories, operation theaters and other wings across the RIMS are vacant as a result medical services are not sufficiently provided to patients.

By taking it as advantage private hospitals around the city are exploiting patients by charging high amount of fee for consultancy and other services.

‘We have reported the vacancies position to the government and providing services with available facilities’ RIMS director, A.KrishnaVeni told The Hans India.
