Bangalore: Upon repeated appeals from pregnant passengers travelling in the Bangalore Metro, the officials have taken few measures to ensure their safety. A source said that pregnant women traveling through the metro felt unsafe using the entry and exit gates which are automated. They also had issues with the detectors being used for body scan checking, claiming it's unsafe for their babies.

While officials have confirmed that the hand-held detectors security personnel use are completely safe, they have added separate gates for pregnant women to make sure they feel safe. A BMRCL spokesperson said, "There were several requests from women. There is no problem with the detectors, and that has been explained. Also, the AFC gates don’t close until a person completely passes through them. Therefore, there’s no concern even there. But since there were requests, we considered letting them use the other gates on humanitarian grounds.”
