New Delhi: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Saturday ruled out imposition of President’s rule in Andhra Pradesh. “There are no chances for imposition of President’s rule in Andhra Pradesh for now,” he said. Shinde said Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy never offered to resign, when he met him.
The Home Minister ruled out any more demand for new states.During the release of the Monthly Report of the Home Ministry, Shinde pointed out that the Cabinet Note was being prepared. Once it was ready, there would be clarity on all issues arising from the decision on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, like sharing of revenues, liabilities, water and power generation and distribution, besides the status of Hyderabad.
Creation of Telangana has entered the second stage. First it was the Congress Working Committee (CWC) Resolution where the party had taken the decision. The second stage is when the government steps in to start the official process for the creation of Telangana, which is under way.Antony Committee, he said, was an internal party arrangement to listen to the party people, address their concerns and to bring them on board. Antony Committee recommendations would be taken into account, Shinde said.
The whole idea behind the exercise is to understand the concerns in various quarters and try to address the same, even as the government forges ahead in the matter.Asked whether the government was rushing through the process, especially at a time when the Seemandhra people were on a boil, Shinde remarked that the government itself held several rounds of discussions since 2009. He had himself chaired an all-party meeting. Widest possible consultations were held.
A consensus was also reached and only after that the government decided to move forward. In fact, discussions are still going on and the entire effort is to arrive at amicable settlement of all contentious issues arising from the decision on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
When told about the U-turn by political parties like the YSRCP and the TDP, which gave in writing their consent for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and are now batting for united Andhra Pradesh, Shinde said it was for those parties to explain their stand to the people at large.
About the APNGOs meeting in Hyderabad, Shinde said the Centre had taken notice of the situation. He expressed satisfaction that law and order was completely under control, barring some stray incidents.
