Bring T Bill this session, Sushma tells GovtNew Delhi: Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj has demanded Telangana Bill in the Winter Session of Parliament commencing on Thursday. At the All-Party Meeting convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath, Sushma Swaraj objected that the Bill was not listed in the agenda though the government was making all sorts of noises regarding the Telangana Bill.
Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who is also the leader of the House in the Lok Sabha, assured her that the Bill would certainly come in this very session. He said that there was a set procedure to be followed. The Bill had to be approved by the Union Cabinet and forwarded to the President who after his signature would refer it to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
After it comes back, the government will bring it to Parliament. It is learnt that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath informed her that the government is even ready to convene a special session to pass the Telangana Bill, if it becomes necessary. After the meeting, Kamal Nath said, “All parties want Telangana Bill to be given top priority. It is also the highest priority of the UPA government”.
The UPA government is hopeful of getting it passed in the winter session of Parliament and if necessary it will extend the House for the same.
