New Delhi: BJP veteran leader L K Advani on Sunday declared that he would contest Lok Sabha polls, rejecting suggestions of his being nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Advani is at present a sitting MP from Gandinagar in Gujarat.

The RSS reportedly mulled nominating him to Rajya Sabha to strengthen the position of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the party. Along with Advani, former BJP President Murli Manohar Joshi is also being considered for being nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
Interacting with media persons after hoisting the national flag at his residence, Advani said, “I have not said anything about going to the Rajya Sabha and if somebody offers me this suggestion I will think about it. But it is natural, I think, that if I had to consider it I would have done it earlier.”
Asked if he would contest the Lok Sabha elections, Advani said, “This is what in my mind.” Advani did not leave any scope for interpretation that he may consider contesting the ensuing biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha. Advani has given clear indications that he wants to keep all his options open and does not want to completely rule himself out from the Prime Ministerial race.
