There exists wide speculation is the national capital that Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is planning to reward Telugu actor and politician Pawan Kalyan with a Rajya Sabha seat for his involvement in the victory of TD and BJP in Andhra Pradesh.

There exists wide speculation in the national capital that Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is planning to reward Telugu actor and politician Pawan Kalyan with a Rajya Sabha seat for his involvement in the victory of TD and BJP in Andhra Pradesh.

The brother of actor and Congress MP K Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan entered politics with the founding of a political party, Jana Sena on the eve of the elections. Later, he opted out of the contest on the request of TD chief Chandrababu Naidu and Modi. Then, he campaigned for the alliance and addressed joint rallies in Telangana and Seemandhra.

The actor’s extensive campaign earned the TD-BJP alliance the support of the influential Kapu community, to which Kalyan belongs – the Kapus have a vote share of around 18% in Andhra Pradesh.

If Kalyan is not brought to the Upper House from Andhra Pradesh, it is likely that he will be elected from Karnataka, where polls to four seats will be held next month.

The day after TD and BJP’s victory in Andhra Pradesh, Modi acknowledged Kalyan’s role in a tweet: “I want to express my gratitude to Pawan Kalyan Garu for his enthusiasm & support through the campaign across Andhra Pradesh.” Modi also invited Kalyan to the NDA meeting in Delhi on Tuesday and expressed appreciation for his effort again.
