The flight was travelling from Mumbai to Brussels when the plane dipped to 5000 feet in altitude. The plane was flying at an altitude of 34,000. The consequences could have been serious had the alert signal not come in from the Ankara airspace.
According to reports, the DGCA has grounded both the erring pilots and ordered an enquiry into the incident.
DGCA rule forbids pilots from falling asleep or any other form of distraction that interferes with the functioning of duty.
