Modi woos Japanese people with 'konnichiwa'

This Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fly to Kyoto to begin his Aug 30-Sep 3 Japan visit. But before the trip, the Prime Ministers of both nations exchanged tweets. Modi tweeted his messages in Japanese. Here are the tweets and their translations:

For me, this is a bilateral visit for the first time outside the Indian subcontinent . It had been planned for early July initially, but it wasn't possible due to the circumstances in the parliament.

This is an elevated and new level of relationship with Japan, I am seeing this an opportunity to enhance cooperation in various fields on this visit to Japan.

On my visit to Tokyo and Kyoto, I will interact with students, political leaders, and business executives, all the layers of the Japanese society.

Through the test of time the friendship between India and Japan has flourished. We are a democracy committed to the promotion of peace and prosperity of this vibrant world.

Japanese PM Shinzo Abe tweeted

India has a special place in my heart".

I am eagerly waiting for your arrival in Kyoto this weekend," Abe tweeted in a message to Modi who will embark on a four-day visit on Saturday.
