New Delhi: The Broadcast Editors Association (BEA) on Sunday paid tribute to veteran journalist Vinod Mehta, adding that he has left an indelible mark on modern journalism.

"I have worked under him and I have never come across an editor of that stature. He has given a new dimension to the field of journalism. Whatever good qualities are there in today's journalism it is because of him. The void that his sudden demise has created can never be filled," BEA general secretary N.K. Singh told ANI.

" BEA pays tribute to the great leader of journalism and hopes that the ideals set by him are followed by the current day editors," he added.

Earlier in the day, Vinod Mehta, the editorial chairman of Outlook India magazine passed away after prolonged illness. His last rites will be performed at 4 p.m. at Lodhi Crematorium.

Mehta, was one of the most influential editors and had launched a number of successful publications such as the Sunday Observer, Indian Post, The Independent and The Pioneer (Delhi edition).
