“At least five labourers of the tea estate were died of starvation so far and more than 50 people fell ill,” Radheshyam Bauri, a labourer of the tea estate said.

In 2012, at least 12 laobourers of the tea estate were died of starvation.

“We have faced food crisis in past a month, after the manager of the tea estate fled. The ration supply and other facilities including medical are totally stopped,” Radheshyam said.

The deceased persons were identified as Gauri Paul (57 years), Lakhi Sabar (26 years), Mini Bauri (26 years), Kaushalya Bauri (55 years) and a child.

At least six labourers were admitted in Silchar Medical College hospital after they fell ill.
