New Delhi: Air Marshal Kulwant Singh Gill, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command, on Saturday flew a three-aircraft close formation sortie on a Hawk Mk132 with his son, Flying Officer Shahbeg Gill, also being part of the same formation. The three-aircraft formation took place approximately at 1500 hrs and landed after approximately one hour.

Meanwhile, in an unusual statement, the Indian Air Force said it was a "historical moment" for them. It added that when father and son landed after the sortie, Ranjit Gill, Shahbeg's mother, was emotional and said that "the two dearest people to me in this world have flown together in close formation and I cannot describe my feeling in words, obviously I feel I am one of the proudest wife and mother".

The son, Flying Officer Shahbeg Gill, is undergoing stage- III training in fighter stream. Giving out a detailed profile of the family, the IAF statement also said that the officer's wife is "aluminous of St Fatima School, Patiala, and graduate form GCG Patiala".
