NEW YEAR TERROR ALERT

New Delhi: Intelligence agencies have issued an alert regarding possible terror attacks by Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) at various locations in the country during the New Year.

Intelligence agencies have warned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Parliament building, Army headquarters at South Block and nuclear facilities may be on the radar of the terror group.

A report quoting intelligence sources said that around 20 terrorists may have entered the country from across the border to carry out suicide strikes at the biggest targets possible.

On Monday, the Centre had asked all states to be extra vigilant to thwart any attempt by terrorists and subversive elements to disrupt peace, particularly in popular tourist destinations, during the New Year festivities.

A country-wide advisory has been given asking all states to deploy additional forces in crowded places like railway stations, bus terminus, markets and religious places to foil attempts by terrorists to carry out attacks. The police forces of major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Goa have been asked to be extra vigilant during the upcoming New Year celebrations.
