Samajwadi Party on Wednesday suspended its four MLAs from legislative party and dissolved the Sitapur unit as part of disciplinary action for allegedly acting against a party candidate in the recently concluded district panchyat polls.

"Four MLAs from Sitapur--Mahendra Singh alias Jheen Babu, Anup Gupta, Radey Shyam Jaiswal and Manish Rawat have been suspended from the legislative party, whereas the district unit of Sitapur has been dissolved by party state president Akhilesh Yadav," SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury said.

The ruling party in Uttar Pradesh has also constituted an inquiry committee to look into the complaints against these leaders, he added.

It is alleged that the leaders helped party's expelled MLA Rampal Yadav's son Jitendra Yadav win the district panchyat chairman election against party candidate Seema Gupta in Sitapur.

The party had earlier expelled MLA Rampal Yadav and his son Jitendra Yadav from the party for alleged anti-party activities.

Besides, the party has expelled former Shahjahanpur MP Mithilesh Yadav, former MLA Achal Singh, former Minister Samarjeet Singh and others for six years for acting against party candidates in Fatehpur, Shravasti and Shahjahanpur, added.
