The main suspect behind the rape and murder of Jisha, the dalit LLB student in Kuruppampady near Perumbavoor, was tracked down to Kochi on Thursday by the police team probing the case.

30-year-old Jisha, a dalit LLB student was found dead in her house at Kurppumpady near Perumbavoor on April 28 with wounds, bite marks and her intestines pulled out when her mother returned from her daily wage work around 7.30 pm.

The incident, which took place in the wake of assembly elections in the Kerala, had triggered mass outrage in the state, with opposition alleging that the government was attempting to salvage its image by ruling out rape element during the initial days of the probe.

Following a thumping victory, the LDF government headed by Pinarayi Vijayan constituted a special investigation team headed by ADGP B Sandhya to probe the case citing unsatisfactory probe.

The SIT earlier inspected an abandoned house near the residence of the victim on Sunday on the suspicion that the assailant might have used the place, located around 100 metres away from the house of the victim, for hiding after committing the crime.

The probe team also conducted physical examination of a slew of workers from other states on Sunday. The physical examination was held at the traffic police station in Perumbavoor, sources said.

The purpose was to find out if any of them are carrying an injury mark in their body that would give a clue to the accused in the case, source said.

Police examined migrant workers who were believed to have been employed in the vicinity of the Jisha’s house.
