Lankesh Patrike editor Gowri shot dead
Noted Kannada journalist Gowri Lankesh was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in her Raja Rajeshwari Nagar residence, here on Tuesday.
Bengaluru: Noted Kannada journalist Gowri Lankesh was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in her Raja Rajeshwari Nagar residence, here on Tuesday.
She was the editor of Lankesh Patrike, a famous Kannada tabloid. Gowri is the eldest daughter of Kannada poet turned journalist P Lankesh.
It has been reported that the miscreants have fired three shots at Gowri, when she was standing at the gate of her residence.
She collapsed on the spot and succumbed to the injuries, police said. A neighbour who heard the gunshots said that there were multiple firings.
Another resident of the area, who did not wish to be named, said that she was shot at as she got down from her car and opened the gate, adding that he immediately called the ambulance.
Her death comes two years after leading progressive thinker and researcher M M Kalburgi was shot dead in his Dharwad home in 2015.
