Sunanda Pushkar was found dead, in a hotel room, on the evening of January 17,2014.The court has found sufficient ground against Shashi Tharoor, for the charges of abetment of suicide and cruelty in the murder of Sunanda Pushkar, his late wife.

On the last date of the previous hearing, Public prosecutor, Atul Srivastava had presented a chargesheet filed under Section 306 and 498A against Tharoor, to the additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Samar Vishal.

On Tuesday, the magistrate stated that he had gone through the chargesheet with the documents filed along the chargesheet, by the special investigation team, and has, by the basis of the police report , taken cognisance of the offence of abetment of suicide and cruelty, upon the victim, by Shashi Tharoor.

The maximum punishment for these offences is a jail term up to 10 years for section 306 and three years of imprisonment for section 498A.

In response to the court order, Shashi Tharoor has tweeted that he would be complying with the order, but also reiterated that he found the accusations against him to be preposterous and baseless.
