Kavali (Nellore): The Laksha Gala Garjana, which was organized at the Udayagiri Bridge, in the town on Thursday protesting against the bifurcation of the State was a huge success as it got an overwhelming response from the people belonging to different sections of the society.
The Garjana, led by the RDO Subrahmanyeshwara Reddy, reverberated in the air and it resulted in a Polikeka by the All Employees of Joint Action Committee and the textile traders. A sea of humanity was overflowing in Kavali as thousands of protestors thronged the streets to make their voice heard loud and clear in the corridors of power in New Delhi. At the start of the Polikeka, people garlanded the statues of Potti Sriramulu and other national leaders and condoled the death of a Samaikyandhra supporter Batta Shankaraiah Yadav who died of heart attack while participating in the agitation.
The agitation for Samaikyandhra has been intensified further and is showing no signs of abatement even after 44 days here in the district on Thursday. The government employees have resolved to strengthen the movement till the UPA government rescinds its decision on Telangana.
The government and private educational institutions have decided to observe total shut down for five days from September 13 to 17. Meanwhile, the 72-hour bandh call given by the employees of the AP Transco and Genco have plunged several villages in darkness.
With incessant rains hitting the district, the situation is in total disarray and normal life has been badly disrupted. Transport has come to a standstill in the district with APSRTC buses going off the roads. The common man is the worst sufferer due to the agitations called by different sections of the society. The government employees are not receiving salaries and they are finding it difficult to cope with the steep hike in prices.
The rural and urban MLAs of Nellore district, Anam Ramnarayan Reddy and Sridhar Krishna Reddy have chalked out their future course of action with respect to the agitation from September 15 in which people belonging to all the sections of the society will participate.
