Corruption Due To 'Chalta Hai' Attitude of Indians. Day in and day out one or the other news on corruption comes out in the open. Be it small or big it has some impact on society.
Day in and day out one or the other news on corruption comes out in the open. Be it small or big it has some impact on society. However, no one cares about it unless it affects them personally. It seems even political parties are aware of it and that is the reason they rake up corruption issue during election time and include it in their manifestos.
All parties speak about crores of money stashed in Swiss banks and promise to bring them back to the country once they are voted back to power. However, nothing happens the moment they come to power.
Perhaps parties have become bold enough to repeat the same promises on corruption unashamedly even though their own Governments are tarnished by numerous scams and corruption charges. This is not the phenomenon of one party. In fact all parties be it national like BJP and Congress or regional like SP,RJD,NCP,YSRCP,DMK,AIADMK face corruption charges. Many wonder when the parties and leaders themselves are facing corruption charges, how can they promise corruption-free administration or make tall promises on corruption.
Right thinking people however craved for change and many who lost hope in drastic change in the system, even stopped voting for the parties. However when Anna Hazare started his fight against corruption and Arvind Kejriwal took it to new level by floating a new political outfit, everyone voted for it, hoping their lives will see a complete turnaround. But within months, their hopes came crashing down with Aam Aadmi Party too behaving like other parties.
Many even feel that NOTA (None Of The Above) option in elections will help ending corruption. But many feel in the muzzle of money power all these will not yield any results.
People are watching with amusement how the Congress party after sleeping for so many years in a hurried manner bought in the anti graft bill to fight corruption in order to boost Rahul Gandhi's image just before elections and get votes. But at the same time double talk of all political parties is getting exposed.
While the Congress party is planning to offer tickets to scam tainted leaders like Prithivi Raj Chauhan, Suresh Kalmadi and others in the coming elections, BJP already allowed Yeddyurappa rejoin the party in Karnataka. DMK, AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, Jagan Mohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh, Mulayam of SP and Mayawathi of BSP in Uttar Pradesh, Lalu Prasad Yadav in Bihar and many others are no different. Analysts feel people especially downtrodden are looking for short-term benefits like freebies while the affluent are looking for luxuries. The middle class are getting sandwiched between them and they are the most affected by corruption. But their voice is not heard any where.
This shows that parties are not bothered about corruption and scams and even those convicted by courts say they will prove their honesty in people's court by winning elections and coming clean. With both people and parties passing the buck to each other, corruption free society and system is just a mirage. While people hope someone to descend from heaven to cleanse the system, they don't themselves take the responsibility to clean their house first. With this 'chalta hai' attitude, political parties plan to thrive on people's short term memories.
