Healthy Jan Satyagrah can weed out corruption

The once self-styled champion of the common man, Mr Arwind Kejriwal was under the illusion that the popular Jan Lokpal movement of Anna Hazare would help him achieve political power. Anna Hazare’s Jan Lokpal movement had spread across the country and it triggered similar movement in many Asian and European nations. It happened because the general public all over the world have become the victims of crony capitalism and were looking for genuine leaders to alleviate their agony, anger and frustration.People are helpless across the world when roads are dug every six months, when play grounds and public parks give ways to shopping malls, when government support land grabbers to displace villagers, when various taxes are imposed without reason, when mega infrastructure projects are thrust upon people, when the cost of basic requirement sky rockets, when food inflation affects every house hold, when policies are twisted to help crony capitalism.

The worse thing happens when some rabid political outfits politicize poverty to gain power. Those outfits highlight poverty and crony capitalism to convert poor and innocent people into vote banks. Actually they do nothing to improve the living condition of poor people. They have no solution for poverty but an economic sense which is infested with insanity. Giving free power, water and food is insanity which triggers inflation and corruption. Freebies which are aimed for the poor helps the rich and the politician for decades. It opens the door for fake public representatives to enter in to the corridor of power.

In fact, Anna Hazare’s Jan Lokpal movement could have achieved inclusive democracy for the country. But the movement was sabotaged by wily politicians who spread rumor about Anna’s anarchist instinct. Actually, Anna was right as he said majority of elected representatives are not the true representatives of people who cannot think good of people. If we observe the recent freebies rain in India we can conclude that politicians can empty the state exchequer for votes. And after grabbing the power they will loot public again and give them endless sufferings. Tamil Nadu Chief Minster Jay Lalitha said freebies improve the living condition of people. Over decades more than 3000 water bodies have disappeared in and around Chennai and created water crisis which ultimately helps water bottle industries. Politicians need vision and courage to safeguard the interest of the common man. Thousands of acres of agriculture land have been converted into real estate around Delhi. The Jamuna river which is the life line of Delhi is in a bad shape. The ground water and air in Delhi is highly polluted. The crime rate in Delhi is alarming. People in Delhi slums live like animals. Kejriwal had many issues in Delhi to fight for.

It was the saddest day for Anna Hazare when Kejriwal said he would part with Anna Hazare for political power. The agents of crony capitalism had succeeded in separating Kejriwal from Anna Hazare to douse the mass movement. Anna’s movement had crossed the barrier of caste, religions and regions. Volunteers from all walk of life joined Anna’s movement. Anna’s movement attracted the committed foot warriors from the RSS, the die-hard communist cadres, the youth mass and the healthy media who wanted a real change.

Kejriwal left Anna and formed Aam Aadmi Party despite Anna’s warning that political power cannot bring change as it is always controlled by market forces. Kejriwal fought election. AAP became the second largest party after Delhi Assembly election. Kejriwal said he had the people’s SMS approval to form the government with Congress backing whom he had defeated in the election. He resigned after 49 days on Jan Lokpal issue. Where were his principles when he formed the government? Did he ask people through SMS before resigning?

Though Anna Hazare had let the Jan Lokpal pass, he cannot create honest Lok Pal to serve the purpose. Rampant corruption in judiciary will not give quality Lok Pal who could give justice to people. More than the Janlokpal bill it is the Jan Satyagrah which could set right public representatives and the babus.

When people know about their rights and learn to remove the odd man from the system with quiet non- violent protest, they could remove any biased Lokpal or punish a corrupt babu. Jan Satyagrah equipped with Jan Lokpal has tremendous power to remove corrupt people from offices. Had Kejriwal lived with Anna Hazare people would have worshipped him. Anna Hazare is the real Hero who successfully fought temptation. He still lives his ideal. What he wants to revive now is Jan Satyagrah which could weed out corruption.
