With the support of key governing bodies (Region Reunion, Commune of Saint Paul and the Territory of the West Coast), Kala Bhaaskara, a classical Indian dance and music institute, is pleased to announce the launch of Reunion Island’s very first Indian Arts Festival. Held next week between October 21st to 23rd, the premiering Festival will showcase world-renowned artists from South Africa, India, Italy and the United States of America, based on a highly eclectic programme.

Notably from India, we’re honoured to have Bombay Jayashree, an Oscar nominee in 2013 for the movie soundtrack of “Life of Pi”. Other outstanding artists include the national award winning Carnatic vocalist, P. Unnikrishnan; noted Indian flautist, Ronu Majumdar; as well as the legendary dancing couple of India, V.P Dhananjayan & Shanta Dhananjayan.

In terms of the international line-up of performances; we will have the American musician, Shankar Tucker, a YouTube sensation who has garnered over 15 million views in two years on his “ShrutiBox” online channel. We are also excited to have Deena Naidoo onboard, the winner of Master Chef South Africa in 2012, who will be the official chef over the 3-day festival period. Other notable South African artists include the brilliant dancer and choreographer, Verushka Pather; as well as talented singer, Karthiegasen Pillay. Several artists from Reunion will also be participating and collaborating with various international groups in this Festival.

An official media release will be issued on October 21st, the opening day of the Festival. Should you be interested in finding out more on the programming or in getting in touch with the artists and organisers for soundbites, feel free to contact me at [email protected] /+262 693 608 356
