Kamareddy: On the occasion of International Day of the Disabled, various competitions were held for the physically handicapped persons at the Indira Gandhi stadium in the town on Friday.

They participated in the 100 meters and 50 meters running race, shot put, caroms and chess competitions. Speaking on the occasion, District Collector Dr N Satyanarayana expressed the hope that the sportsmen would bring laurels at the national and state levels.He said that the handicapped people should be encouraged to take part in sports.

Superintendent of Police Shweta Reddy said that she was very happy to see so many handicapped people taking part in sports. Games improve the physical and mental health, she added.The Collector gave away prizes to the winners.

The winners would be set to participate in the state level sports competition in Hyderabad form November 30 to December 2.DRDA project director Chandramolhan Reddy and others were present.
