RaghavuluCPM State secretary BV Raghavulu addresing students of a government welfare hostel in Ongole on Tuesday Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary BV Raghavulu on Tuesday paid a visit to some government welfare hostels in the town to get first hand information on the state of affairs in the hostels. Raghavulu, along with the leaders of the Kula Vivaksha Porata Samiti (KVPS), visited the hostels and spoke to the inmates about the conditions. As part of the programme, he visited an SC hostel that has 150 inmates and interacted with the students. Later, speaking to the media, he came down heavily on the government for its negligent attitude towards welfare hostels for SCs, STs and BCs. He deplored that there were only four latrines for 150 hostel inmates. If this is the case in the district headquarters town of Ongole, one can imagine the conditions of hostels in villages, he said. The students are using 'hard water' for all purposes. They are neither given proper nutritional food nor clean drinking water. There is no proper hygiene in the hostels, he said. The Government should have improved basic infrastructure facilities in the hostels during summer vacation when students were out of hostels. He demanded the government to wake up from deep slumber at least now and create basic facilities in these hostels. He said the Congress government has raked up the Telangana issue only to cheat common people. "It is only to garner votes in the coming local body elections. CPM is for a united Andhra Pradesh at all costs," he said.
