and2 Tirupati: Communist Party of India on Thursday staged a protest at RDO's office demanding solution to many local problems of Tarakarama Nagar near Karakambadi in Tirupati and handed over a memorandum to the Revenue Divisional Officer demanding policy decision. They demanded drinking water, electrical power connections to all houses, installation of street lights, construction of inner roads, construction of Mahila Bhawan, play ground, Ambedkar Bhawan, and other basic amenities at Tarakarama Nagar. Speaking to media persons, State Committee member Harinath Reddy, who led the protest, said that district administration had sanctioned about 400 acres near Karakambadi in 2004 and house pattas issued to about 10,000 homeless poor people, but no basic facility was provided. People are facing many problems for drinking and potable water at this colony, and people gave representations to revenue officials several times earlier on the occasions of 'Praja Durbar', 'Rachcha Banda' and 'Revenue Sadassu', but no action was witnessed even after over two years, he said. The two-year tenure of Kiran Kumar Reddy's government proved that it is anti-people, he pointed out. During the past two years, people have tasted much bitterness through hike of petro-product prices, increase in electricity tariff, negligence in developing the local colonies and no control over price rise of essential commodities, he said. Later, they handed over the memorandum to RDO and demanded immediate action.
